Just before 7 a.m. Wednesday, firefighters received reports of a residential fire at Stonecreek Apartments on the 25000 block of McBean Parkway in Valencia.

“The fire started from electrical wiring leading to the resident’s clothes dryer,” said Scott Elliott, an inspector for the Los Angeles County Fire Department. “The fire started in the walls between the units and extended into the attic.”

Firefighters declared knockdown of the fire by 7:55 a.m., but units remained at the scene for several hours in an effort to make sure all the hot spots throughout the attic and walls were cooled off.

Two of the units sustained damage, and six units were deemed uninhabitable by Santa Clarita Building and Safety officials, Elliot said

The American Red Cross was requested to assist the families affected by the fire, according to officials.

“When the Red Cross is notified due to a natural disaster, we work to make contact with the individuals who are displaced and find out what they need,” said Jeanne Woo, senior disaster program manager for the Red Cross.

The Red Cross is able to provide short term housing, food and money to help replace clothes that may have been lost, Woo said.

About Louie Diaz

Louie was born and raised in Santa Clarita. At the age of two Louie lost his vision due to a brain tumor. However, Louie doesn't let blindness stop him from doing what ever it is he wants to accomplish. Growing up some of his favorite hobbies were wood working, fishing and riding bikes. Louie graduated from College of the Canyon in December of 2017, with a Broadcast Journalism degree. Growing up Louie has always wanted to be a fire fighter or a police officer, but because of his blindness Louie knew that wouldn't work. Louie has always loved listening to police and fire radio traffic, using a scanner, and he figured if he was going to listen to the scanner so much, he should do something with it.
