A vehicle fire in Newhall has spread to the surrounding brush Friday afternoon near Sierra Highway, with forward progress stopped, officials said.
The fire was first reported at about 3:50 p.m. Friday near Sierra Highway and Foothill Boulevard in Newhall, according to Inspector Sky Cornell with the Los Angeles County Fire Department.
A vehicle fire spread to the surrounding brush, growing to about a quarter acre, according to Cornell.
Forward progress was stopped about 20 minutes after being reported, according to fire officials.
The area is a mutual aid zone, meaning the Angeles National Forest, L.A. County Fire and the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) are responding.
Foothill Boulevard is closed in both directions Friday evening as crews finish “mopping up” the blaze, officials said.
