On Tuesday morning, an unidentified incident at Pitchess Detention Center in Castaic injured several inmates, officials said.
At about 10:26 a.m. Tuesday, emergency responders received reports of a Mass Casualty Incident in the maximum security area of the Pitchess Detention Center in Castaic, according to Los Angeles County Fire Department (LACoFD) officials.
UPDATE (2:45 p.m.) — Several inmates ingested a controlled substance, according to Requel Utley, spokesperson for the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
Three inmates were transported to the hospital.
UPDATE: (11:01 a.m.) — The patient count has been updated to only 17 patients, according to LACoFD officials.
According to initial reports, at least three people have experienced critical injuries.
The exact nature of the incident remains unknown as of 10:52 a.m. Tuesday.
