The change was announced in an effort to help keep customers, staff and the community safe, according to SCV Water officials.

“Our gardening class program has always been very popular,” said Event Coordinator Karen Denkinger. “We’re really excited to bring them back in a new format so we can continue to serve our customers and community.”

Residents interested in attending the gardening classes in Santa Clarita can now do so from their own homes, with one class expected to be offered every month on a Saturday morning at 9 a.m.

While the content will be consistent with previous in-person offerings, the format will be more condensed, focusing on the chosen topic for 45-60 minutes followed by a question-and-answer session, according to officials.

Because the presentations will be recorded, residents can view classes online for one week following the live class, and participants can download the presentation.

The virtual series kicks off on August 8 with “Basics of Sustainable Landscaping,” where attendees can learn how to start a landscape project and the basic elements involved in sustainable landscaping.

The instructor is set to go over how to preserve natural resources and be “water-wise” while still having  a landscape that “meets your needs,” officials said.

Then on September 19, “Water Saving Turf Care and Turf Substitutes” can help attendees keep their lawn looking its best with turf substitutes.
