Unemployment numbers are skyrocketing as COVID-19 rises in numbers. Everyone is filing for unemployment, but the benefits last up to six months according to Fred Arnold of American Family Funding.

Now the question is being asked on where those people are going after their benefits from EDD run out? They still don’t have jobs, or their jobs haven’t called them to come back to work.

Dave Cantrell of American family Funding likes to look past the numbers because there are a million people coming off of unemployment. He asks Fred where they are going in which Fred responds with the PUA (Pandemic Unemployment Assistance).

This started because of the coronavirus and lasts for nine months instead of six months, which people can still apply till December if they decide to extend it as well. This allows the person to receive $800 a week and regardless they won’t have to work until September 2021.

Now the PUA is what everyone is slowly going to start heading to once their unemployment benefits are gone.

It is extremely hard for parents to go back to work due to their children not being able to go to school. Some children need extra attention when it comes to homework and if they have any disabilities such as ADHD. Dave says that now they have two jobs to upkeep so why go back to work?

“I’ll take reduced hours… I’ll stay unemployed,” Dave says as a response to parents because they need to help their children with homework.

Most of the time people can’t go back to work or there are no jobs available, so they have to stay on unemployment.

American Airlines cut 15,000 jobs according to Fred which means their stock price went up because they are no longer paying for their expenses. The downside is now those employees have no jobs.

“If you have a job keep it. Ask your boss how you can improve,” Dave says in regards of wanting to move within the company during the pandemic. He also tells us that it is not a good idea to job hunt if you already have a job.
