A well-involved 5 Freeway vehicle fire has prompted a SigAlert, snarling traffic leaving Santa Clarita, officials said.
UPDATE 1:15 p.m.: All lanes are back open, according to CHP officials.
Around 12:15 p.m: first responders received reports of a vehicle fire on the southbound 5 Freeway north of Weldon Canyon, said Marvin Lim, spokesperson for the Los Angeles County Fire Department.
“It was a well-involved vehicle fire with no spread to the brush,” Lim said.
As a result of the fire, California Highway Patrol Newhall Area Officers have issued a SigAlert blocking the No. 4 and 5 lanes for approximately one hour, according to officials.

People need to really maintain their cars (and big rigs) better. These vehicle fires happen far too often and often result in small brush fires. We’re lucky this wasn’t during a Santa Ana winds event.
