The Bakersfield woman who was killed in a 5 Freeway crash Tuesday, despite the efforts of an off-duty nurse and a police officer attempts to save her life, has been identified.
Laura Vasquez, 54, from Bakersfield, was killed in the 5 Freeway rollover crash, said Brian Elias, spokesperson for the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office.
Around 9:55 a.m. Tuesday, first responders received reports of a traffic collision on the southbound 5 Freeway north of Lake Hughes Road in Castaic, said Officer Josh Greengard, spokesperson for the California Highway Patrol (CHP) Newhall Area Office.
“Upon CHP arrival it was determined to be a solo vehicle, two-door Honda sedan with four occupants,” Greengard said. “The vehicle appeared to have veered to the left, colliding with the dirt embankment which caused the vehicle to overturn.”
Vasquez suffered life-threatening injuries and was pronounced dead on arrival despite an off-duty nurse and a CHP officer attempting life-saving measures.
Two adults and a child were transported to a local hospital with minor injuries, according to Greengard.
