A child was ejected from a vehicle following a crash on the southbound 5 Freeway, resulting in severe road rash on Sunday afternoon.
At around 1:17 p.m. Sunday, first responders received reports of a crash on the southbound 5 Freeway just north of Lyons Avenue, according to supervisor Melanie Flores with the Los Angeles County Fire Department.
“One person was transported to the hospital,” said Flores.
A car was flipped onto its backside and blocked the #1 lane of the Freeway. Initial reports indicated that a child had been ejected from the vehicle and sustained road rash wounds.
As a result of the crash traffic on the southbound 5 Freeway came to a standstill as first responders worked to transport patients to the hospital.
Officers with the California Highway Patrol continued to direct traffic through the outside lanes as first responders cleaned the scene and a tow truck worked to tow the car on its back.
