Family Of Mother, Son Killed After 14 Freeway Crash Seek Community Support

The family of a Lancaster mother and her teenage son who were killed after a 14 Freeway crash Sunday have set up a GoFundMe to support the surviving family through their time of need.

The GoFundMe, organized by the boy’s elder sister, Erise Fedrick-Finn, requested the support of the community for her surviving family in the aftermath of the crash that took the lives of her loved ones.

“This past weekend my family was involved in a car accident. Unfortunately, my father’s wife Murdewiyanti (Murni) and my little brother, Talent passed away,” wrote Fedrick-Finn on the GoFundMe page.

On Sunday around 6:40 p.m., a Castaic Tow flatbed truck was traveling northbound in the No. 5 lane of the 14 Freeway near Newhall Avenue when it collided with the back of the Finn family’s 2015 Nissan, said Officer Josh Greengard, spokesperson for the California Highway Patrol (CHP) Newhall area office.

“The Nissan Sentra was disabled in lanes,” said Greengard. “(The) mother died on scene.”

48-year-old Lancaster resident Murdewiyanti Finn was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash by firefighters who responded to the crash, said Sarah Ardalani, spokesperson for the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner Office.

17-year-old Talent James Finn, who had been sitting in the backseat, was transported to Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital with major life-threatening injuries, according to CHP reports.

Her husband, Eric Finn and their 12-year-old daughter were both transported to Northridge Hospital with minor injuries.

“We would like to ask our family, friends and anyone who can help during this time to provide any extra assistance. Anything truly helps during this time,” read the GoFundMe. “Please keep my Dad and little sister in your thoughts and prayers. Thank you and have a blessed day.”

  1. I just went onto Google maps and verified there are in fact five lanes on the northbound 14 at Newhall Avenue. A little further south there are six. And anyone who speaks fluent English knows that in this context “after” means “as a result of.”
My condolences to YOUR family for having to deal with your willful stupidity all day long.

  2. I’m so sorry for your loss and may our SWEET LORD and SAVIOR JESUS CHRIST SURROUND you with HIS PRECIOUS PRESENCE and HIS LOVING GRACE and HIS MERCY. I Pray that your family have the strength to to heal.
