A freight train struck and killed a person on the tracks in Sun Valley Monday morning, impacting Metrolink service, officials said.
UPDATE: 10:50 a.m. — The tracks are now open, with delays reported for Metrolink service, according to the agency.
At about 7:50 a.m. Monday, the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) received a report of a person being struck by a train near San Fernando Road and Sheldon Street, according to Margaret Stewart, spokesperson for the department.
“One person age/gender unknown at this time found deceased after being hit by train,” reads an alert from the LAFD.
No other injuries were reported, according to Stewart.
The freight train was operated by Union Pacific, according to Metrolink officials.
The tracks are closed between Sun Valley and Sylmar, according to a Tweet from Metrolink.
An estimate of the closure is unknown at the time, according to a Metrolink spokesperson, and is expected to be closed “until the authorities investigation is complete.”
The identity of the victim is unknown as of Monday morning.
