An investigation into a Santa Clarita hit-and-run began Saturday after a driver allegedly struck a vaccination worker at a coronavirus vaccination site in Newhall, officials said.
Around 4:45 p.m. Saturday, deputies received reports of an assault with a deadly weapon at a COVID-19 vaccination center on the 22900 block of Market Street in Old Town Newhall, according to Sergeant Barkon with the Santa Clarita Sheriff’s Station.
The deadly weapon in question, a vehicle, was allegedly used to drive into the vaccination site, hitting signs and knocking over cones, according to Barkon.
“One of the workers was picking up a sign when they were struck by the vehicle,” Barkon said.
The victim was later treated on scene for minor arm injuries, according to Melanie Flores, a dispatch supervisor for the Los Angeles County Fire Department.
The altercation remained “non-verbal” throughout the crash and as the driver fled the scene, so the intent of the crash remains unknown, according to Barkon.
The suspect remains outstanding as of 5:30 p.m. Saturday.

THE FACTS: Israel was one of the first countries to vaccinate a huge swath of its population against COVID-19. Health officials around the world have been watching to see how the country fares against COVID-19 variants and how effective the Pfizer vaccine works at protecting the population.
Misleading posts on social media are now twisting data from Israel to falsely claim the country’s vaccination program is a failure due to the number of breakthrough cases of COVID-19 among the vaccinated. Medical professionals say Israel’s vaccine program is making remarkable progress against the virus.
“The vaccination campaign was hugely effective,” Dr. William A Petri, professor of infectious diseases at the University of Virginia, said of Israel’s efforts. “It’s really extraordinary how well these vaccines work.”
Experts say the country’s high vaccination rates are keeping case numbers down and reducing hospitalization and deaths even as the delta variant is provoking an uptick in infections. Data from Johns Hopkins University shows Israel documented 1,118 new cases on July 21 — which is less than a tenth of the 11,934 new cases the country had at its peak on Jan. 27, before vaccines were widespread.
“It doesn’t mean vaccines don’t work,” Dr. Robert Cyril Bollinger, Johns Hopkins University professor of infectious diseases, said about Israel’s data. “They have very low rates after vaccination versus where they were before vaccination.”
The vast majority of the new cases in the past month have shown only mild symptoms, but at least 73 people have had serious cases of COVID-19, the Associated Press reported. That is well below the more than 1,000 serious cases treated each day at the height of the pandemic, but up from 19 in mid-June.

I’m not talking about children. I’m talking about grown adults. Grown adults who should be getting data from better sources than facebook where anyone can misinform the public. And in case you didn’t know #protectyourfamily was overtaken by antivaxxer within the last 48hours. Everything the media says is not a lie. I know it is hard to differentiate things. So I asked my lung doctor. He said that 80% of the patients hospitalized are not vaccinated. 20% are vaccinated but have underlying conditions. That is not some fake news. This is a doctor that is treating his patients saying this. And the Unvaxed people are taking beds that are causing others not to have a bed. My friend just struggled with this over the weekend. She had to call around to multiple hospitals to find an open bed for her husband. He was responsible and got the vaccination and now couldn’t get care because of beds being taken by unvaccinated covid patients. So Wendy, maybe you need to check your facts. I know this has become so politicized but I think everyone needs to take a chill pill and start asking questions kindly. Maybe when someone you love that is unvaccinated ends up really sick in the hospital you might question your choice. Or at least not criticize people who have already experienced that pain and are urging people to get vaccinated.

Anne…No it isn’t…They now are calling vaxed cases “breakthrough cases”. Like I said before, the CDC is NO LONGER COUNTING…No longer keeping track of the vaxed/covid cases…So all your data is skewed. We need to be laying the blame at the feet of who caused this…The “scientists” who invented this in the USA and then took it over to China and unleashed this bioweapon on the world. Not fighting amongst ourselves, which is exactly what they love seeing us do. We are ALL going to have Corona Virus soon enough…Vaxed or unvaxed….It doesn’t seem to matter. So let’s stop with the blaming, lets stop with the shaming. If you all thought you were actually safe because you had this injection, you wouldn’t even be on this site going back and forth. But because you are, and because you are so still concerned with it, that tells me, you have no trust that this vax works. And Monroe, since I work at a hospital, YES…I have had more vaccines than you’ll ever have in your lifetime. I wasn’t JUST talking about children.
