Lancaster Woman Identified As Victim Killed In Fatal 14 Freeway Crash In Newhall

A Lancaster woman has been identified as the victim killed in a 14 Freeway crash that occurred Sunday evening, officials said.

Murdewiyanti Finn, 48, from Lancaster was killed in the crash, said Sarah Ardalani, spokesperson for the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner Office.

On Sunday around 6:40 p.m., a Castaic Tow flatbed truck was traveling northbound in the No. 5 lane of the 14 Freeway near Newhall Avenue when it collided with the back of a 2015 Nissan with a Lancaster family inside, said Officer Josh Greenguard, spokesperson for the California Highway Patrol (CHP) Newhall area office.

“The Nissan Sentra was disabled in lanes,” said Greenguard. “(The) mother died on scene.”

When firefighters arrived on scene, Finn was declared dead on arrival, according to Los Angeles County Fire Department officials.

The adult male driver of the Nissan, described as the father of the family by Greenguard, and a female minor were transported to the hospital with minor injuries.

A teenage male patient was transported with major life-threatening injuries, according to Greenguard.

Alcohol or drugs are not suspected in the collision, according to CHP reports.

  1. This is so sad For the entire family, my deepest condolences,
There have been numerous times that I have seen tow trucks on the freeway going extremely fast and changing lanes as if they were small sports cars. I don’t know how to solve this issue but something needs to be done to prevent this tragedy from happening again.

About Louie Diaz

Louie was born and raised in Santa Clarita. At the age of two Louie lost his vision due to a brain tumor. However, Louie doesn't let blindness stop him from doing what ever it is he wants to accomplish. Growing up some of his favorite hobbies were wood working, fishing and riding bikes. Louie graduated from College of the Canyon in December of 2017, with a Broadcast Journalism degree. Growing up Louie has always wanted to be a fire fighter or a police officer, but because of his blindness Louie knew that wouldn't work. Louie has always loved listening to police and fire radio traffic, using a scanner, and he figured if he was going to listen to the scanner so much, he should do something with it.
