Newhall Man Identified After Being Ejected From Jeep In Fatal Central CA Crash

A Newhall man killed in a fatal crash in San Luis Obispo County has been identified Tuesday, officials said.

Mirko S. Malobabich, 31, died Saturday after a military-style Jeep overturned and ejected all four occupants, according to Officer Mike Poelking with the California Highway Patrol.

On Jan. 18 at about 10:20 p.m., Malobabich was driving a 1998 Encore M-151 military-style two-door Jeep vehicle on a private dirt road in unincorporated SLO County, according to the CHP.

“While driving westbound at approximately 30 miles per hour, (the driver) made an unsafe turning movement to the left, causing the vehicle to turn sideways,” the CHP report said.

The vehicle subsequently overturned and ejected all occupants, according to CHP investigators.

Malobabich sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene by San Luis Obispo County EMS personnel, according to the report.

It was determined that Malobabich was not wearing a seatbelt, according to the CHP.

The three other parties, including Garett Fairchild, of Valencia; Emily White, of Santa Clarita; and Martinique Rowden, of Newhall, were sent to the hospital.

Injuries to the other occupants were described as “non-life threatening,” according to CHP officials.

It is unknown if alcohol or drugs played a factor in the crash, according to the CHP report.

Anyone with information regarding the collision is encouraged to contact the CHP San Luis Obispo Office at (805) 594-8700.
