Around 6:15 p.m. Sunday, first responders received a call for a traffic collision involving a pedestrian at the intersection of Railroad and Lyons Avenues, according to Captain Ron Singleton with the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

“It was a fatal crash,” said Lt. Andrew Dahring with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

Deputies on scene conducted a field sobriety test on the driver of the vehicle that struck the pedestrian, however the results of the test were not available as of 7:30 p.m. Sunday, according to officials.

One person was taken into custody, according to a witness on scene.

Railroad Avenue is shut down in both directions between Lyons Avenue and 11th Street while deputies continue their investigation, according to Dahring.

This is the second fatal pedestrian crash in Newhall within the last three days. On Friday morning, a bicyclist on  Railroad Avenue near 15th street was struck and killed.

  1. People need to stop running red traffic signals. Most probably the the cause of this accident or texting.

    • Actually- that was NOT case at all with this collision! The person ran directly out into oncoming traffic! The teens in the car ABSOLUTELY could NOT avoid this man at all!!! That’s a factual statement!

  2. No disrespect to our sheriff department from water I have several good friends, but we need more regulation and more assertive action for these law breakers. Sped and and lack of following signs are a hide problem.
A couple years ago my daughter was hit by a car while on the pedestrian crossing in front of her school.
The report was 50 -50 at fault.
Makes you wonder since when a car and a Child in a school crossing has no more right away in California. Either the sheriff was too noticebto the motorist or there was no desire to spend any time getting the facts. My kid was taken to Henry Mayo and that was the end of her soccer season and further involvement in sports. Shame is that I have to hire a lawyer to deal with the hospital bills. My point is that until pedestrian crossing and the law is being followed, not much would change.

About Louie Diaz

Louie was born and raised in Santa Clarita. At the age of two Louie lost his vision due to a brain tumor. However, Louie doesn't let blindness stop him from doing what ever it is he wants to accomplish. Growing up some of his favorite hobbies were wood working, fishing and riding bikes. Louie graduated from College of the Canyon in December of 2017, with a Broadcast Journalism degree. Growing up Louie has always wanted to be a fire fighter or a police officer, but because of his blindness Louie knew that wouldn't work. Louie has always loved listening to police and fire radio traffic, using a scanner, and he figured if he was going to listen to the scanner so much, he should do something with it.
