UPDATE: Bicyclist Dies After Being Struck By Vehicle In Newhall

One person has died Friday after being struck by a vehicle while riding a bike on Railroad Avenue in Newhall, officials said.

The crash was first reported at about 7:10 a.m. Friday, near the corner of Railroad Avenue and 15th Street, according to Captain Ron Singleton, with the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

“A car struck the person on his bike,” said Singleton. “They were transported to the hospital.”

The person, described as a 62-year-old female, died as a result of the crash, according to Shirley Miller, spokesperson for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

The driver of the vehicle was not injured, and the crash is under investigation, according to Miller.

Northbound traffic on traffic on Railroad Avenue is shut down, as deputies investigate the crash, officials said.

The identity of the victim has not been released by the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office as of Friday morning.

Although there were initially conflicting reports from the fire department, Sheriff’s officials later identified the victim as a 62-year-old female.

  1. All morning it was reported that the victim was a 50 year old male. Get it right KHTS !

  2. I am sorry for the grandchildren of the dead lady. Awful to lose a role model.

  3. How important was it to show the beat-up bike and back-pack of the poor dead lady. Her family will see that forever. Put more “thought” in your photos, please.

  4. She was the perfect person, very nice woman! Like a mom to me. I’m very sad and worried about my mom as well because she travels often on buses and trains in Newhall and practically everywhere. She will be missed dearly, I’m still very sad and my heart goes to the daughter and grandchild.
