One Trapped After SUV Flips Over Center Divider On 14 Freeway, Five Hospitalized

Five people were sent to the hospital Friday after a SUV flipped over the center divider on the 14 Freeway trapping at least one of the patients.

Around 11:40 a.m. Friday, first responders received reports of a traffic collision on the 14 Freeway near Placerita Canyon Road in Newhall, said Geovanni Sanchez, spokesperson for the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

A SUV traveling southbound collided with another car before flipping over landing on the northbound side of the 14 Freeway, according to California Highway Patrol (CHP) logs.

One person was trapped, and extricated from the wreckage, according to Sanchez.

As a result of the crash, five patients were transported to the hospital in unknown condition, according to Fire officials.

Traffic on both sides of the 14 Freeway were impacted as a result of the crash.

One Trapped After SUV Flips Over Center Divider On 14 Freeway, Five Hospitalized

  1. Why were the passengers and the driver of the SUV referred to as “patients”? Was this a medical transport SUV taking patients to or from a hospital or clinic?

    • Patient: a person receiving or registered to receive medical treatment.

So the sentence is correct. They were receiving medical treatment on route under medical supervision. Therefore, they are patients.

      • Following the crash they became patients is how I read the article.

        • Fair enough. But just for the sake of understanding, the sentence leads in with “As a result of the crash…” So as a result, they are now patients since it follows with them immediately being under medical care.

  2. Here’s another “nit” with this report. It states, “Traffic on both sides of the freeway were impacted as a result of the crash”. The word “were” should be “was”. The word “Traffic” is a singular noun and requires a singular verb.

About Louie Diaz

Louie was born and raised in Santa Clarita. At the age of two Louie lost his vision due to a brain tumor. However, Louie doesn't let blindness stop him from doing what ever it is he wants to accomplish. Growing up some of his favorite hobbies were wood working, fishing and riding bikes. Louie graduated from College of the Canyon in December of 2017, with a Broadcast Journalism degree. Growing up Louie has always wanted to be a fire fighter or a police officer, but because of his blindness Louie knew that wouldn't work. Louie has always loved listening to police and fire radio traffic, using a scanner, and he figured if he was going to listen to the scanner so much, he should do something with it.
