An overturned big rig has shut down both eastbound lanes of Highway 138 near the 5 Freeway Tuesday morning, officials said.
At about 6:47 a.m. California Highway Patrol (CHP) officers responded to the reports of an overturned tractor-trailer on Highway 138 east of Gorman Post Road, according to Officer Josh Greengard, spokesperson for the Newhall Area CHP Office.
“Right after the crash, the driver was able to get out of the cab,” Greengard said. “There were only minor injuries.”
Both eastbound lanes of Highway 138 are closed east of the I-5, according to Greengard, with officers diverting traffic to westbound lanes, when necessary.
The closure is estimated to be about six to eight hours, according to CHP officials.
“It only takes the slightest bit of inattention to start a chain reaction that ends up like this,” said CHP Newhall on social media. “Please keep your eyes and attention on the road ahead.”
It is unknown what was inside the big rig at the time of the crash, according to Greengard.
The cause of the crash is under investigation.
