Overturned Semi-Truck Temporarily Blocks Sierra Highway Off Ramp In Santa Clarita

An approximately three-hour long SigAlert shut-down the Sierra Highway off ramp and southbound 5 Freeway truck route in Santa Clarita after a semi-truck overturned down an embankment Saturday morning.

Around 7:30 a.m. Saturday, emergency responders received reports of an overturned semi-truck in the northbound truck lane of the Newhall Pass in Santa Clarita, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP) Incident Logs.

Witnesses reported seeing a “red semi down an embankment,” according to CHP officials.

The crash forced a concrete guardrail and additional debris into the lanes of The Old Road Truck Route, prompting the initial SigAlert.

The SigAlert between Sierra Highway and the southbound 5 Freeway truck route was lifted around 10 a.m. Saturday after CHP officials worked for over two hours to clear the debris from the lanes, according to the CHP Incident Logs.

The cause of the crash remains unknown.

No injuries have been reported as of 11 a.m.
