UPDATE: Overturned Tanker Spills 4,000 Gallons Of Fuel, Northbound 14 Freeway Reopened

An overturned tanker has shut down the northbound 14 Freeway in Canyon Country Sunday morning, officials said.

UPDATE: 4:30 p.m. — All lanes of the northbound 14 Freeway are now open after a 12-hour closure, according to CHP.

UPDATE: 7:50 a.m. — The amount of fuel spilled has reached at least 4,000 gallons, according to fire officials.

The crash was reported at about 4 a.m. Sunday, on the northbound 14 Freeway north of Sand Canyon Road, according to Supervisor Martin Rangel, with the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

“At the last report, over 400 gallons has spilled on the freeway,” Rangel said. “There were minor injuries.”

The injured person was transported to a local hospital, according to fire officials.

All lanes of the northbound 14 Freeway are shut down as of 8 a.m Sunday for an “unknown duration,” said Officer Marroquin, with the California Highway Patrol.

A SIG Alert was issued at about 4:20 a.m. Sunday for the crash, according to CHP.

Although there were some conflicting reports of multiple tankers crashing, there was only one tanker which collided with a passenger car, according to Marroquin.

The freeway could remain closed for hours as crews clean the fuel spill, officials said.
