A Palmdale woman has been identified as the victim killed in a 5 Freeway crash Tuesday just south of the Newhall pass, officials said.
Maria De La Luz Torres, 66, from Palmdale, was killed in the crash, said Sarah Ardalani, spokesperson for the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office.
Around 8:05 a.m. Tuesday first responders received reports of a traffic collision on the southbound 5 Freeway near the 405 Freeway, said Brian Humphrey, a spokesperson for the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD).

The crash involved four vehicles, a trash truck, a big rig, a Homeland Security Patrol vehicle and a SUV, according to officials.
When first responders arrived on scene, Torres was declared dead on arrival, according to Humphrey.
The cause of the crash remains under an active investigation, according to California Highway Patrol officials.

I send my condolences and prayers to her family. I used to work with Maria. Great person, she will be missed by all of us. She had just retired in April.
