Person Hospitalized With ‘Major Injuries’ After Big Rig Crash On 5 Freeway

One person was hospitalized early Sunday morning after a big rig slammed into a Jeep on the 5 Freeway near Castaic. 

At around 11:40 p.m. Saturday night, first responders received reports of an accident involving a big rig and a white Jeep on the southbound 5 Freeway near Templin Highway, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP)

“A vehicle crashed into a parked car on the right shoulder,” said Supervisor Miguel Ornelas with the Los Angeles County Fire Department. “One person was transported.”

According to CHP, the big rig semi-trailer truck smashed into a white Jeep near Templin Highway. 

One person was transported to the Henry Mayo Newhall hospital with “major injuries,” according to CHP. 

As a result of the accident, a SigAlert was issued for the No. 4 lane of the southbound 5 Freeway. All lanes were open as of 9 a.m. Sunday. 

Units were on scene for over an hour. The incident has since been cleared. The condition of the injured patient is not known as of 9 a.m. Sunday.
