Person Struck, Killed By Freight Train In Sun Valley, Metrolink Through Santa Clarita Impacted

A person was struck and killed by a freight train in Sun Valley Friday morning, officials said.

UPDATE: 2 p.m. — The tracks have reopened with delays in Metrolink traffic still in place, according to Metrolink.

The incident was reported just before 10:30 a.m. Friday on the 8100 block of Sunland Boulevard, according to Margaret Stewart, spokesperson for the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD).

“Firefighters responded to reports of a person struck by (a) train,” Stewart wrote in an incident alert.

The victim was declared dead on scene, according to the LAFD.

Tracks are closed between Sylmar and Sun Valley, impacting the Antelope Valley Line through the Santa Clarita Valley, according to Metrolink.

AV Line 209 is set to hold at Sylmar, according to Metrolink officials.

The duration of the closure is unknown as of Friday morning.

Age and identity of the victim are not being released, pending the notification of next of kin.
