A Santa Clarita crash temporarily shut down southbound lanes of Sierra Highway after one of the vehicles caught fire on Monday, officials said. 

Around 1:30 p.m. Monday, emergency responders received reports of a traffic collision on the 23200 block of Sierra Highway near Eternal Valley Memorial Park and Mortuary, according to Ed Pickett, a dispatch supervisor with the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

“It was a two vehicle collision,” Pickett said. “We transported two patients with one in critical condition.”

The extent of the injuries are unknown as of 3 p.m. Monday evening, according to Fire officials. 

Traffic travelling south on Sierra Highway was temporarily blocked for an unknown duration as first responders worked to clear the scene. 

Emergency responders were shortly called back to the scene at around 2:30 p.m. when a vehicle involved in the collision had caught fire, according to Fire officials.
