Two 5 Freeway Crashes Involving Three Big Rigs In Castaic Snarl Traffic

Two 5 Freeway crashes in Castaic involving three big rigs have impacted traffic Tuesday, officials said.

UPDATE: As of 2:10 p.m. all lanes are now open, according to officials.

Around 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, the California Highway Patrol received reports of a traffic collision involving two big rigs on the southbound 5 Freeway north of Lake Hughes Road, said Officer Josh Greengard, a spokesperson with the California Highway Patrol Newhall Area Office.

“Two vehicles were involved,” Greengard said.

At approximately 12:20 p.m. while crews were working to clear the wreckage, a third big rig flipped onto its side at the scene of the original crash, Greengard said.

“A big rig tried to avoid them and overturned,” Greengard said.

No CHP or Fire Department personnel were injured as a result of the second crash, according to officials.

Two people were transported to the hospital with minor injuries, according to officials.
CHP officers have issued a SigAlert blocking the No. 4 lane for approximately two hours, according to officials.

  1. Yep poor training and heavy traffic really good combination. And now they ruled that they need drivers age 18 driving a big rig. You think there are accidents in this country now what till that happens. Hope no-one was killed.

About Louie Diaz

Louie was born and raised in Santa Clarita. At the age of two Louie lost his vision due to a brain tumor. However, Louie doesn't let blindness stop him from doing what ever it is he wants to accomplish. Growing up some of his favorite hobbies were wood working, fishing and riding bikes. Louie graduated from College of the Canyon in December of 2017, with a Broadcast Journalism degree. Growing up Louie has always wanted to be a fire fighter or a police officer, but because of his blindness Louie knew that wouldn't work. Louie has always loved listening to police and fire radio traffic, using a scanner, and he figured if he was going to listen to the scanner so much, he should do something with it.
