Two Lake Hughes Residents Killed In Crash After Truck Plunges 200 Feet Down Embankment North Of SCV

Two Lake Hughes residents were killed in a crash Sunday night after their truck plunged 200 feet down an embankment landing on its roof, north of Santa Clarita.

William Dunn, 56, and Travis Dunn, 22, both from Lake Hughes were killed in the crash, said Sarah Ardalani, spokesperson for the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office.

Around 10:15 p.m. Sunday, officers with the California Highway Patrol,  (CHP) Newhall Area Office responded to a traffic collision on Pine Canyon Road near Tweedy Lakes in Lake Hughes north of Santa Clarita, said Officer Josh Greengard, spokesperson for the Office.

“CHP officers arrived on scene and observed a solo vehicle crash involving a white GMC pickup,” Greengard said. “The driver of the GMC was traveling at a speed which did not allow him to properly negotiate the curve ahead.”

The GMC collided with the guardrail which caused the truck to go airborne and eventually rolled two to three times before coming to rest on its roof approximately 200 feet off the roadway, Greengard said.

As a result, William and Travis Dunn were pronounced dead on arrival by paramedics with the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

Anyone with information regarding the Lake Hughes crash is encouraged to contact Officer Kovacs at the CHP Newhall Area Office at (661) 600-1600.

About Louie Diaz

Louie was born and raised in Santa Clarita. At the age of two Louie lost his vision due to a brain tumor. However, Louie doesn't let blindness stop him from doing what ever it is he wants to accomplish. Growing up some of his favorite hobbies were wood working, fishing and riding bikes. Louie graduated from College of the Canyon in December of 2017, with a Broadcast Journalism degree. Growing up Louie has always wanted to be a fire fighter or a police officer, but because of his blindness Louie knew that wouldn't work. Louie has always loved listening to police and fire radio traffic, using a scanner, and he figured if he was going to listen to the scanner so much, he should do something with it.
