UPDATE 11:32 a.m.: CHP officials have issued a SigAlert closing the southbound No. 1 lane at Escondido Canyon Road for one hour, according to officials.
Around 10:40 a.m. Wednesday, first responders received reports of a traffic collision on the southbound 14 Freeway south of Escondido Canyon Road in Agua Dulce, said Franklin Lopez, a spokesperson with the Los Angeles County Fire Department.
“The call came in as a solo-vehicle collision with no fire,” Lopez said. “There was one patient trapped but was extricated.”
The vehicle reportedly was traveling northbound on the 14 Freeway before overturning and landing in the southbound direction of the highway, according to Officer Eric Priseman with California Highway Patrol Newhall Area Office.
California Highway Patrol officers are investigating witness reports that the crash may have been caused by an alleged drive-by shooting, according to CHP logs.
“We’re still trying to figure that out,” said Officer Josh Greenguard with the CHP Newhall office.
A helicopter was requested to transport the driver but was canceled, according to Lopez.
The victim was transported to a local hospital via ambulance in unknown condition, according to Fire officials.
