Wheelchair-Bound Pedestrian Hospitalized After Being Struck By Vehicle In Saugus Crash

A wheelchair-bound pedestrian was hospitalized after being struck by a vehicle in a Saugus crash near Best Buy Friday, officials said.

Around 11:35 a.m. Friday, first responders received reports of a traffic collision on the 26500 block of Bouquet Canyon Road near the Best Buy, said Austin Bennett, a spokesperson with the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

“It came in as a pedestrian in a wheelchair being backed into by a vehicle,” Bennett said.

One person was transported to a local hospital, according to deputies on the scene.

  1. This literally happened to my friends mother. Don’t joke about other people’s heartaches.

  2. There are way too many pedestrians being hit in the Santa Clarita Valley! What is really going on? Why are people so angry in this area???

  3. Why are so many pedestrians being hit by cars in this area? It’s not ok! When I walk to the store I feel like I have to be afraid for my life from cars. People in the Santa Clarita Valley seem really angry behind the wheel. It is really frightening for just senior citizen that has to walk now.

    • My son was hit on Tuesday and the man took off. A felony hit and run. My son went to the hospital and has bruises and a sprained ankle and sprained knee. I took it upon myself to try and find this man and the car he was driving. The sheriffs are not really doing anything to help…
They said since he is not in a coma or dead unfortunately will not exhaust there resources to try and find him. I can’t understand why they said that when it is a felony hit and run!!!

  4. People walking in parking lots don’t realize that the people in cars can’t see them- Cars have a lot of blind areas-and when people walk behind cars that are backing out of a parking space they are NOT visible until they get in view of the driver- People walking need to make sure cars can see them-
Cars that drive in parking lot commonly drive too fast, because they are just coming from a road- Parking lot speed should be only 20 mph-

  5. People drive in parking lots like they’re on streets, fast and not looking out for pedestrians. I NEVER see cops in parking lots at all or even on streets looking for traffic violations. Forget Seco Canyon Road, they drive on this street like it’s a freeway!!! And forget stop signs. It’s more like Stoptional signs!!!

  6. First of all, people are not bound to their wheelchairs! They use wheelchairs for their mobility. Parking lots need to have a clear path of travel from the street to the doors of the store because not everyone gets to the store via car! So it is the fault of the Best Buy that she got hit.

    • All drivers are responsible for the safe operation of the vehicle they are driving. Since Best Buy was not driving, your comment is way off base, Susan. Also federal ADA codes specify handicap paths of travel.

About Louie Diaz

Louie was born and raised in Santa Clarita. At the age of two Louie lost his vision due to a brain tumor. However, Louie doesn't let blindness stop him from doing what ever it is he wants to accomplish. Growing up some of his favorite hobbies were wood working, fishing and riding bikes. Louie graduated from College of the Canyon in December of 2017, with a Broadcast Journalism degree. Growing up Louie has always wanted to be a fire fighter or a police officer, but because of his blindness Louie knew that wouldn't work. Louie has always loved listening to police and fire radio traffic, using a scanner, and he figured if he was going to listen to the scanner so much, he should do something with it.
