Multiple jackknifed big rigs have closed the truck route at the 5 Freeway and Highway 14 interchange in the Newhall Pass on Monday, officials said.
UPDATE (3:55 p.m.): Caltrans District 7 stated the closures resulting of the jackknifed big rigs will last until approximately 11 p.m. Monday.
Reports were received at about 12 p.m. of a vehicle collision on the truck route in the Newhall Pass, according to California Highway Patrol Officer Tony Polizzi.
“When we arrived on scene, two big rigs were found that collided with the center divider,” said Franklin Lopez, spokesperson for the Los Angeles County Fire Department. “There were no injuries, but a hazmat team has been called for a diesel fuel spill.”
A SigAlert was issued for the closure of the southbound 14 and 5 Freeway truck lanes, which are expected to be closed for an undetermined amount of time as of 12:25 p.m. Monday, according to Polizzi.
