With several ongoing construction projects continuing both on surface streets and the 5 Freeway in Santa Clarita, residents have seen heavier traffic than usual in recent months.

“The understanding in this valley is transportation problems, meaning traffic problems, are right at the top — if not the top one, top second or third — of our concerns,” said Patterson. “I think we have exercised a lot of patience in this valley because we see hope in the future and we understand that these (projects) are going to bring a better flow.”

Patterson noted that aside from any current construction projects, motorists can usually get across town using surface streets quickly.

“They have pretty well mastered the system of controlling, monitoring and changing to the flow of traffic through their control system in the heart of the city to help us,” he said. “If we hit those lights in the proper sequence and we drive the speed limit, we can go from the 5 Freeway all the way across to the end of McBean with green lights.”

However, a major contributor to slower travel times and increased traffic in the valley is the prevalence of car crashes, according to Patterson.

“I think a lot of the main reasons the traffic gets slowed up of course is because of accidents,” he said. “Statistically, probably 75 percent of all the accidents occur within approximately three to four miles of your home, so we can help with the traffic problem by driving safely and being alert.”

As a Santa Clarita personal injury lawyer, Patterson specializes in representing the victims of car crashes in the case of serious injuries or death, and recommends the victim or their loved ones contact him as quickly as possible following an accident.

“It’s much more of an advantage for us to get the facts (when they are) fresh, get them recorded and be able to repeat that at a later date when memories fade, or when witnesses hear other things … (and) that begins to cloud their recollection and memories,” Patterson said. “So we try to preserve all that and try to preserve the evidence.”

  1. Has anyone noticed how our city streets were dead during the week/during normal working hours to now we have traffic all day every day? We have too many outsiders visiting our town as well as people traveling from a far to work here. It is a complete joke that all the new business ventures on the horizon that our city council is promising us to reduce traffic. How do they plan on doing that when they cannot deny anyone from obtaining a job that doesn’t live within SCV. 21,000 homes off the 126 , 19,000 up by Gorman and more industrial parks to be built. If you believe we will see less traffic after all that goes in then your a moron . Our community was a place to live and get away from all of the nonsense that’s in LA or San Fernando valley. Now they’re turning our town into the very thing we didn’t want it to be .

    • Yo, Travis-
What would you do to prevent ‘outsiders’ from visiting our town? Build a wall and require anyone wishing to enter show ID and proof of US citizenship? Let’s realize we live in the crotch of two major arteries connecting LA to the north and to the east necessitating travel thru it. And then there are several attractions meant to draw in those pesky ‘outsiders’ such as Magic Mountain and the architecturally resplendent, much admired Beautiful Downtown Newhall Parking Structure with its unparalleled views of the Santa Clarita Valley! Where is your civic pride?! The SCV Chamber of Commerce wants thi$.

btw- “your a moron should read, you’re a moron. oops…

      • Denny , Its called sarcasm. Of course we cant stop outsiders or people wanting to work here. I’m just tired of the City saying we wont turn Santa Clarita into “The Valley” even though its happening. Civic Pride????? So I pointed out facts that our traffic is horrible from the rapid expansion in our city and jobs they promised our community go to others who do not live here. My point is for the City to stop feeding us bullshit. I find it to be reckless since our roads do not support commuters and our Sheriffs even point out how understaffed each department is for our population . So that means I don’t have civic pride or we should build a wall??? I’m more concerned if we have another major disaster like the 94′ earthquake and then we will be in real trouble. How long have you lived out here??? My family has been out here since the mid 50’s. Sorry if my town pride for 2019 isn’t up to standards you agree with or we don’t see eye to eye. I’m putting public safety ahead of greedy money the City wants to bring in. Downtown Newhall is a joke since most of the new establishments which are going in are Bars or Restaurants that serve alcohol. So who exactly are we catering to when the City approves these drinking establishments? Here’s another fact I’ll hit you with most of our DUI convictions are from people who traveled here for our attractions like Downtown Newhall, Town Center Mall, Concerts in the Park and Magic Mountain. Since our News outlet reports these DUI convictions and where these people traveled from I have concerns on where our City Halls morals are at. We read reports on crime is up, traffic accidents are up, DUI’s are up. It seems our Chamber of Commerce as well as yourself are sold on fancy new paint jobs and structures, while denying the fact we have problems that are being ignored. Our DUI’s are out of control so lets put in more places for people to drink at that’s a smart move. You must be a Liberal since you ignore facts and you could only point out I typed your on my iPhone . Comments on grammar??? More like a fat finger and old eyesight but perhaps you should find another word besides Yo to start a conversation off with and by the way not btw its through not thru.

        • Thru, being a shortened version of through, threw you, apparently as well as my joking about civic pride and the damn parking structure I’ve been ragging on since before it opened. Now, show me your papers!

          • I know what thru is. I was pointing out your childish comments on grammar while grown ups are trying to have a conversation on real issues. My advise to you is get back in line and act accordingly. I have no problem showing my papers. Which ones would you like to see ? My Birth Certificate ,Honorable Discharge, Master degree in Business, Stem degree, CCW or my DOD?

          • Glad you know what ‘thru’ is. But you don’t get that my comments were facetious; tongue-in-cheek statements intended to make my points w/o hurting your feelings. Life must be tough when you have to ‘stay in line’ like a good fascist foot soldier.

        • It irritates me that the city makes money from alcohol events at Central Park.

It is ironic that events like “Brews and Mucho Bucks” are right next to the Youth Grove; a memorial to youth from our community killed in traffic-related collision, mostly caused by drunk driving.

          • Warren I couldn’t agree more . They call these family friendly events but having people get drunk and smoking weed with kids around while causing fights and people drinking and driving doesn’t sound to family friendly to my standards. I feel events are good to have here in town but not to this level where our youth is experiencing adults acting this way.

  2. Not telling the truth here.

    LIE #1
“…through their control system in the heart of the city to help us. If we hit those lights in the proper sequence and we drive the speed limit, we can go from the 5 Freeway all the way across to the end of McBean with green lights.”

    LIE #2
“Statistically, probably 75 percent of all the accidents occur within approximately three to four miles of your home”

This is true but not mentioned
Freeway truck traffic is using city streets as a short cut. Dangerous accidents will happen.

  3. Travis is just another delusional resident who blames outsiders for anything negative that occurs in or to our community. I swear everyday someone blames outsiders for everything from crime, traffic, reckless driving, bad air, lousy performances at Central Park etc., as if the SCV is immune to real world events and its residents are entitled to skirt through life unscathed. I imagine next week when the heat wave returns, outsiders will be blamed for that too.

Wah wah, don’t like how things are? Get involved to improve the quality of life for all people not just yourself. And just so you know, the good old days were never so good for everybody. Stuck in the past leaves you behind.

  4. Here we go again with Star P’s comments which point out how you cant handle the facts. Everything I pointed out was provided by our News outlet. Its called open conversation on News articles about our city. Another Leftie that talks out their ass while ignoring the facts. If you don’t like my comments then email the people from this paper and tell them to stop reporting the News
