UPDATE: Valencia Water Main Break Shuts Down Dickason Drive

A Valencia water main break has shut down traffic on Dickason Drive near Valencia High School Thursday night.

UPDATE (7:40 a.m. Friday): Valencia High School’s class schedule has been adjusted as a result of the water main break.

Students at Valencia High School will be on their late-start schedule on Friday, according to Dave Caldwell, spokesperson for the William S. Hart Union High School District.

Repairs on the broken water main were still ongoing as of Friday morning.

Original Post: At around 6:20 p.m. Thursday, firefighters with the Los Angeles County Fire Department received reports of a water main break on Dickason Drive in Valencia.

As a result, a sinkhole formed in the roadway, according to an SCV Water official on scene.

Traffic on Dickason Drive was completely blocked as a result of the break.

An estimated time of repair was unknown as of 7:20 p.m. Thursday.

This is happening because Valencia Water Company, then owned by Newhall Land and Farming. used cheap PVC plastic pipes for water mains instead of investing in ductile iron that would have lased 50 Plus years. This was cheaper and so brought more savings and profits to the shareholders – Newhall Land and Farming. When the Castaic Lake Bought this water agency for 73 million (a high price) in a sweetheart deal in 2012, they bought all their expensive pollution problems and cheap pipes which we tax payers now have to pay for. When thye merged and formed a new mega district, they hoped you would forget all this. When your water rates go up, you might want to think about what caused it.
