KHTS AM-1220 chooses each Unsung Hero based on residents contributions and involvement in the Santa Clarita community.

Macpherson has lived in the Santa Clarita Valley for almost 30 years, after moving here from England in 1986. She was also a city employee.

Soon after moving here, she started volunteering at the red cross and became a disaster worker, and was then employed by the company as their branch manager.

“I’ve always volunteered with different organizations, the whole time I’ve been here,” Macpherson said.

Macpherson is heavily involved in the Zonta Club of Santa Clarita.

Zonta Club is an international organization made up of a group of professionals,” Macpherson said. “Our mission is to support and encourage girls and women both locally and throughout the world.”

The club’s major local fundraiser is called “The Tribute”, and the annual event held in November raises funds to support people locally, Macpherson said.

Macpherson discussed three projects that she feels strongly about through the Zonta Club, the first being, “Life Forward.”

“We help women with finances, learning how to get a job, and resume writing,” Macpherson said.

Macpherson is also involved in the Robotics Workshop through the Zonta Club.

The club works with The Boys and Girls club and is aimed at getting young girls interested in math and science, Macpherson said.

“I am passionate about helping women and young girls achieve whatever that is that they want to achieve,” Macpherson said.

Macpherson also partners with the domestic violence center for the Domestic Violence Court Advocacy program.

“We go with women to court and help them through the process of getting temporary restraining orders,” Macpherson said.

Macpherson admits she has a full plate when it comes to her commitments, but says she enjoys it.

“I like being busy, and I love the community and there’s so much need,” Macpherson said. “It’s so fulfilling to find a niche that you enjoy doing, and I am very fortunate in that way.”

Macpherson is also a former Woman of the Year recipient and is involved in many other Santa Clarita Valley volunteer projects and clubs.

When asked about her future plans, Macpherson beamed as she described a different kind of “volunteer project” she is looking forward to.

“I’ve got a new grandbaby that is due this next week which is really exciting,” Macpherson said. “This will make number three, so I’m thinking that will keep me busy for a while.”
