Officials with the National Weather Service have announced a High Wind Watch for the Santa Clarita Valley for Super Bowl Sunday, in addition to forecasting “light snow” on the Grapevine.
The High Wind Watch is set to take effect on Sunday afternoon until Monday morning, with meteorologists forecasting wind speeds of 30 to 40 mph, with gusts of up to 60 mph possible, according to an alert from the National Weather Service.
“Damaging winds could blow down large objects such as trees and power lines,” the alert reads. “Power outages are possible.”
The high winds have the potential to impact drivers on the I-5 Freeway, State Route 14, and Highway 126, according to officials.
“Travel could be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles,” the National Weather Service alert reads.
In addition to the elevated winds, a cold storm has the potential to bring snow on the Grapevine “down to 2,000 feet,” according to a tweet from the National Weather Service.
