Recent Storm Brings Several Feet Of Snow To Mountains Surrounding Santa Clarita

The recent storm that hit Santa Clarita brought several feet of snow to the surrounding mountains and has added to our more than normal rainfall amounts for the year.

The “big storm” that hit Santa Clarita over the weekend brought up to 4 feet of snow to the mountains surrounding Santa Clarita and bringing our overall rainfall amounts to over double for this time of year, said David Sweet, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service.

Some of the snow amounts that fell on the surrounding mountains included:

  • 48 to 72 inches of Snow for Mount Pinos
  • 36 to 60 inches of snow for Pine Mountain club
  • And 93 inches of snow for Mountain High, according to Sweet.

The storm also brought several inches of rain to our Santa Clarita Valley including:

  • 8.38 inches of rain in Newhall
  • 4.87 inches of rain in Saugus
  • 4.7 inches of rain to Del Valle near Val Verde
  • and 4.49 inches of rain in Castaic, according to Sweet.

The normal rainfall amounts for February is 9.96 inches.

Three more storms are expected to bring rain to the Santa Clarita Valley this week, according to Sweet.

However, only about an inch of rain is expected.

Snow levels could drop down as low as 1,500 feet by Wednesday which could impact the Grapevine for the third time within a week, according to Sweet.

About Louie Diaz

Louie was born and raised in Santa Clarita. At the age of two Louie lost his vision due to a brain tumor. However, Louie doesn't let blindness stop him from doing what ever it is he wants to accomplish. Growing up some of his favorite hobbies were wood working, fishing and riding bikes. Louie graduated from College of the Canyon in December of 2017, with a Broadcast Journalism degree. Growing up Louie has always wanted to be a fire fighter or a police officer, but because of his blindness Louie knew that wouldn't work. Louie has always loved listening to police and fire radio traffic, using a scanner, and he figured if he was going to listen to the scanner so much, he should do something with it.
