Santa Clarita Red Flag Warning Extended Into Saturday

A Red Flag Warning issued for the Santa Clarita Valley has been extended an additional day as a result of predicted high winds and dry conditions.

On Thursday, officials with the National Weather Service extended a Red Flag Warning for Los Angeles and Ventura Counties into Saturday after previously being scheduled to end Friday.

The Red Flag Warning, which includes all of the Santa Clarita Valley, is now set to last from 2 p.m. Thursday until 6 p.m. Saturday.

A major component behind the decision to extend the Red Flag Warning are the predicted dry conditions, with humidities expected to lower sharply Thursday afternoon and evening to 12 to 25 percent, lowering further to 6 to 15 percent for Friday through Sunday.

“If fire ignition occurs, conditions will be favorable for rapid fire spread, long range spotting, and extreme fire behavior which would threaten life and property,” the watch reads.
