Dodgers Clinch NL West For Seventh Consecutive Year

The Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the Baltimore Orioles on the road Tuesday to clinch their seventh consecutive NL West division title.

The Dodgers were the first team in Major League Baseball to clinch their division, and thus a playoff berth in the National League Division Series (NLDS).

“It’s obviously early in September, but it doesn’t take away from what we as an organization accomplished. As a game, it’s tough; it’s a grind. So when you do get moments like this, we do a good job of appreciating what we have accomplished, and it’s special,” said Dodgers General Manager Dave Roberts. “To win one division, but to win seven in a row — the consistency of the organization to do what we’ve done, a lot of credit goes to a lot of people. Now is the idea of just refocusing in everything we do going forward, (and) to win 11 games in October.”

Tuesday’s 7-3 victory at Camden Yards came behind the Dodgers’ trademark big bats and a seven-inning shutout from Pitcher Walker Buehler.

Corey Seager tacked on two more home runs to make it 16 on the season for the shortstop.

Seager knocked a three-run blast in the top of the first and a two-run shot in the third inning.

Rookie Gavin Lux chipped in as well, as he homered for a solo shot in the fifth, the first home run of his career.

Buehler pitched 11 strikeouts and gave up no walks in his seven-inning appearance.

While 15 games still remain to be played in the regular season for the Dodgers, the team’s focus is no doubt fixed on October and their date with the NLDS.

The Orioles returned the favor on Wednesday in the second game of the series with the Dodgers, defeating the boys in blue 7-3.

The Dodgers have four games left on their road trip as they face the Orioles Thursday at 4:15 p.m. before a three-game series in New York against the Mets.

The team then returns home for their final home series of the regular season against the Colorado Rockies.
