Dodgers Outduel Mariners In Offensive Battle

The Los Angeles Dodgers (17-7) managed to have the final say in a battle of bats against the Seattle Mariners   (7-17) as they picked up an 11-9 win Monday night.

Ross Stripling got the start on the mound for the Dodgers but only made it through three innings with a rough outing.

The Mariners opened the game with a two-run inning on an RBI double from Kyle Seager and an RBI single from Austin Nola to drive in Seager. Mookie Betts responded for the Dodgers in the bottom of the innings with a leadoff solo home run to left-center field to close the gap to a single run, 1-2.

While it was Kyle Seager who got things started for the Mariners, his brother Corey Seager launched a three-run homer to right-center field to cap off a five-run second inning for the Dodgers, taking a 6-2 lead.

While Stripling had escaped the second inning unscathed, he was worked in the third as he gave up five runs on three homers before he was pulled for Anthony Misiewicz who got the Dodgers out of the inning now down 6-7.

Kyle Seager tacked on another run for the Mariners with an RBI single in the fourth to expand their lead to 6-8.

At that point, the offenses quieted down somewhat until the bottom of the seventh when the Mariners turned to Taylor Guilbeau out of the bullpen and the Dodgers came roaring back to life with a five-run inning to reclaim the lead 11-8.

The Dodgers loaded the bases early in the inning and took advantage with an RBI single from A.J. Pollock, a forced run on a walk to Max Muncy, a Joc Pederson RBI as he groundout out into a double play and finally a Kike Hernandez two-run homer to bring in Pollock.

Evan White managed to launch a solo home run in the top of the ninth to close the gap, but it was too little too late for the Mariners as they came up short in the battle of bats Monday night in an 11-9 Dodger win.

The Dodgers continue their home series against the Mariners Tuesday afternoon at 4:10 p.m.
