Dodgers Prepare To Face Atlanta Braves In NLCS

With their recent sweep of the San Diego Padres in the divisional round, the Los Angeles Dodgers now make their final preparations before their National League Championship Series (NLCS) matchup with the Atlanta Braves kicks off Monday night.

The Dodgers are undefeated to this point in the 2020 MLB Postseason and look poised to carry their momentum into their series with the Braves.

Atlanta, who also swept their way through the Wildcard and Divisional rounds against the Cincinnati Reds and Miami Marlins, respectively, looks to be the Dodgers toughest opponent yet this postseason.

Both teams have proven themselves to be offensive juggernauts, the Dodgers ranked first in the league in home runs and runs scored in the 2020 season while the Braves ranked second in both categories.

Their matchup marks only the fifth series in postseason history between the top-two teams in runs and home runs, per Elias Sports Bureau.

The series brings some consistency and some change for the Dodgers, as they have the advantage of continuing to play at Globe Life Field, where they’ve played all five of their postseason games this year, but this time the crowd won’t be filled with just empty seats.

Approximately 11,500 fans are expected to be admitted into the stadium in Arlington, Texas, distributed across the stadium’s 40,300 seats and various suites, the first time fans are to be in attendance at a Dodger game this season.

While the Dodgers have had five postseason games and three regular season games at Globe Life Field, this will be Atlanta’s first series this season in the stadium, as they played their postseason ball to this point in Houston at Minute Maid Park.

The Dodgers have had to make adjustments to their playstyle in response to the size of the field, the regular season home run leaders have only hit two in the postseason, but have still managed to score 30 runs so far.

In the pitching department, Walker Buehler is slated to once again get the Game 1 start to open the series for the Dodgers while Braves ace Max Fried gets the nod for the start from his team.

The Dodgers will likely look to rely on their bullpen depth as Buehler continues to deal with blisters which have limited his pitch count.

While the Dodgers have been no slouch in pitching with a second-best team ERA of 2.0 in the postseason, Atlanta has led the league so far at a 0.92 team ERA.

That success has been largely driven by a red hot Ian Anderson who has yet to give up a run in his 11 2/3 innings pitched this postseason and another scoreless six-innings from Kyle Wright in his sole start.

The Dodgers will have the opportunity to put the Braves to the test and to advance to the World Series for the third time in four years starting Monday night at 5:08 p.m.
