Gallo Hits First Dodgers Homer, Win Streak Reaches 10 With Victory Over Twins

The Dodgers’ win streak reached an even 10 Wednesday evening, as deadline acquisition Joey Gallo has his first Hollywood moment.

The Dodgers simply cannot be stopped. The team extended its winning streak to 10 games with their 8-5 victory over the Minnesota Twins on Wednesday night, the Dodger’s first 10-game winning streak since 2017 when the team went to the World Series. The current iteration of the Dodgers has their eyes set on the same destination.

“This is an unbelievably talented group of guys,” newly acquired Dodgers’ outfielder Joey Gallo said. “And the way everybody goes about their business is very special. Everybody cares.”

Gallo delivered the keynote of the night with a three-run homer in the 7th inning to give the Dodgers an 8-4 lead.

“Everybody wants to win, no matter what, and I don’t think we’re ever out of any game,” Gallo said.

Special is one way to describe it. Dominant would be another. The Dodgers improved to 30-5 over their last 35 games and 77-33 overall on the season, putting the team on pace for 113 wins which would blow past the franchise record of 106.

It was all hands on deck last night, as the team received RBI contributions from six different members of their lineup, including a home run from infielder Max Muncy to open the scoring in the 2nd inning.

“We know we can win. It doesn’t matter what the score is. We can go out there and put up runs, and we have the pitching to stop it. It’s been a fun stretch,” Muncy said.

The Dodgers received a go-ahead home run from Chris Taylor in the 6th inning, getting rookie starting pitcher Ryan Pepiot off the hook after he allowed four runs over 5.1 innings to Minnesota. Walks are still an issue, but the right-hander did well to work around three free passes and keep the game within striking distance for the venerable Dodgers lineup.

The Dodgers were rather quiet at the trade deadline this year. Among the moves they did make, Joey Gallo, who quite literally was booed out of the Bronx, was brought in as something of a reclamation project. Turning the fortune around for players who failed to live up to expectations with other teams is something the Dodgers have seemingly become experts in over the last decade- see Justin Turner, Max Muncy, Chris Taylor, who each have become All-star players since joining Los Angeles.

“It’s been a while since I’ve heard people chanting for me, so I’m pretty excited about that,” Gallo said on the field after his home run last night.

Perhaps Gallo will be the next player whose career turns around with the team.

The Dodgers are off Thursday before beginning a three-game series on the road with the last-place Kansas City Royals, providing a very realistic opportunity to extend the team’s winning streak to 13. Tony Gonsolin will take on Royals starting pitcher Daniel Lynch on Friday with first-pitch set at 5:10 p.m. PDT.
