The Los Angeles Dodgers looked sluggish Monday night in their opening game of a four-game series at home against the San Francisco Giants, losing 2-3 off of a late Chris Taylor error.
The first two runs for the Giants came in the second inning on a deep double which caught right fielder Cody Bellinger off guard, as he uncharacteristically jogged towards the corner of right field expecting the ball to land in the stands, only for it to land in play.
After the rough inning for starting pitcher Kenta Maeda, he went on to retire 12 of the last 13 Giants he faced.
The Dodgers answered back in the second with a solo home run from Max Muncy, but then went on to leave runners in scoring position in the third, fourth and fifth innings.
That home run marked Muncy’s 17th for the season and his fifth in the last eight games.
Despite Muncy’s answer, however, the Giants ultimately found the game’s deciding run in the sixth inning.
Julio Urias had entered in relief of Maeda and walked the first two batters he faced.
The next batter then hit into a potential double play at second only for shortstop Chris Taylor to send the relay throw to first and find no one on the receiving end, sending the ball sailing into the stands, sending a Giants runner home for the deciding score.
The Dodgers will get another crack at their rivals tonight at 7:10 p.m., with Dodgers ace Clayton Kershaw set to face off against the Giants 24-year-old rookie Shaun Anderson.
