SCVi Charter School Holds College Signing Day For Seven Full-Ride Scholarship Athletes

On Wednesday, the Santa Clarita Valley International Charter School (SCVi) hosted a College Signing Day event to honor the school’s seven athletes who have been granted full-ride scholarships to top-ranked colleges across the U.S.

A College Signing Day event this week was hosted for seven elite athletes from SCVi Charter School in honor of the teens’ full-ride scholarships to seven highly-ranked universities.

“We are here to celebrate and congratulate our (seven) athletes here,” said SCVi college and career Counselor Kris Nilsen. “SCVi is not new to having athletes get scholarships to go to college, but this year we get to celebrate (seven) all at once.”

Having secured basketball scholarships for their initiative and skill during their high school careers, each athlete was recognized at the event in SCVi’s Upper School Quad in Castaic.

“SCVi is incredibly proud of these stellar athletes who have worked so hard to earn full scholarships,” said SCVi Director, Martha Spansel-Pellico. “It’s an incredible feat and we couldn’t be more pleased to be able to host this event in celebration of this important and monumental day in their lives.”

The event showcased each scholarship holder officially signing their letters of intent.

The SCVi Seniors who signed letters of intent to their college of choice included:

  • Amaree Abram – Texas A&M University
  • Broyce Batchan – University of San Francisco
  • Robert Cowherd – University of Mississippi
  • Jaxon Kohler – Michigan State University
  • Jalen Reed – University of Florida
  • Ozyiah Sellers – University of Southern California
  • Jaylen Thompson – Stanford University

“The event was huge,” said Coach Julius Von Hanslik. “Couldn’t thank SCVi enough. They are a huge part of what we do.”

The coach expressed his and the athletes’ appreciation for the academic support and guidance provided by SCVi, attributing their contribution to the success of the students.
