Well-Involved Truck Fire Sparks Brush Fire North Of Santa Clarita 

A brush fire north of Santa Clarita prompted a response from firefighters to the 5 Freeway on Friday.

UPDATE (6:56 p.m.): The number three lane of the northbound 5 Freeway has been opened.

UPDATE (4 p.m.): The fire has reached 225 acres with 5 percent containment, according to Fire officials. 

UPDATE (2:30 p.m.): The Emigrant Fire is now at least 100 acres in size with rapid growth to the north, according to Angeles National Forest officials.

UPDATE (2:18 p.m.): The No. 3 and No. 4 lanes of the northbound 5 Freeway have been closed just south of Vista Del Lago Road, according to Officer Josh Greengard, spokesperson for the Newhall California Highway Patrol office.

UPDATE (2:08 p.m.): The Emigrant Fire has spread to 30 acres with a potential of 200 acres within the hour, according to officials.

UPDATE (2 p.m.): The blaze had spread to 25 acres within 30 minutes, according to Fire officials.

Around 1:40 p.m. Friday, first responders received reports of a brush fire on the northbound 5 Freeway near Vista Del Lago in Gorman, said Ian Connly, a spokesperson for the Los Angeles County Fire Department. 

“It was a well-involved truck fire that spread to the brush,” Connly said. 

As of 1:40 p.m., the blaze, named the Emigrant Fire, has burned 5 acres with no structures threatened, according to Fire officials.
