Friends and family of the Saugus High School senior who was killed in a fatal crash Monday, held a memorial for the teen Wednesday.

More than 300 people came to the memorial held in the heart of Saugus High School– the grassy quad near the school’s Legacy Wall.

“Our world has changed drastically over the last 48 hours, that’s for sure. I’m told by some friends that just prior to that run, she texted some that she loved, some that she cared for and I still shudder when I think of the words that Jenny texted,” said Saugus High School Principal Bill Bolde.” She said ‘I’m really loving my life right now’.”

Bolde among several others including Stift’s parents spoke at the memorial, sharing stories and memories about Stift.

“We had talked a lot about the future, especially graduation and talked about going to college together even though we wanted to do way different things,” said Stift’s friend of six years Taylor Marrotta. “I know she meant a lot to everyone. I still don’t believe it, I’m waiting for her to walk up to me so I can jump on her. I’m at a loss for words, I dont even know what to say.”

Stift always wore fuzzy socks and many students at Saugus High wore fuzzy socks Wednesday in honor of her memory.

“Please, if you’re wearing some fuzzy socks, can we stick our feet up,” said Marrotta. “I love you Jen, see you soon.”

Stift was killed Monday after a 17-year-old male driving a 1989 Toyota Celica “allegedly lost control” of the car and struck her.

“She was was the light of my life and I know she’s watching over me,” Marrotta tearfully said. “I have a beautiful guardian angel.”

Saugus High School’s Legacy Wall currently has 12 bronze plaques to commemorate students who lost their lives.

“It’s hard to take but the reality is in the next few months, there will be another plaque on that wall and it will say Jennifer Stift,” Bolde said.

Stift was 17 years old and was expected to graduate from Saugus High School in the spring.

“I’m crying and I wasn’t even with her every day and I didn’t text her ever,” said Haley Buggle, who was asked by Bolde to speak at the memorial. “If there’s any regret that I have, I would have taken more time to get to know her more than I did.”
