Santa Clarita Sports Report: April 2, 2015

Santa Clarita Sports Report: April 2, 2015 – The West Ranch boys golf team won the Foothill League match at the Encino Golf Club by nine strokes over Valencia.

It was the second Foothill League match of the season. Hart won the first match at Encino last week.

West Ranch shot 367 as a team. Hart was third, 13 shots behind West Ranch.

Danny DiMaria from West Ranch shot the low round of the day. He was 4-under at 68. Four players from West Ranch shot 77 or better. Jason Del Rosario was 1-over 73.

In high school softball, the Albert Einstein Academy beat Santa Clarita Christian, 4-3. Cassidy Cangemi struck out 12 and pitched a complete game for Einstein. She was 2-for-3 at the plate and drove in a run.

Einstein improved to 9-2. Santa Clarita Christian dropped to 4-4.

The Valencia softball team beat Alemany, 5-1. Erin Andris hit two home runs and drove in three.

Valencia is 10-5 and begins play in the Michelle Carew Tournament against Murrieta Valley today.

In high school volleyball, the Canyon boys swept Golden Valley in three games and remained undefeated in the Foothill League.

Jared Hathaway had 11 kills. Canyon improved to 17-2 overall and 2-0 in the Foothill League.

In college baseball, The Master’s College beat Arizona Christian, 12-2. The Master’s College is 32-7 and 25-6 in the Golden State Athletic Conference.

In the major leagues, Hart High graduate Mike Montgomery was traded from the Tampa Bay Rays to the Seattle Mariners in a swap of pitchers.

The Rays got Erasmo Ramirez in exchange for Montgomery, who was originally drafted by the Kansas City Royals in 2008. He won 10 games in Triple A pitching for Durham.

In the NHL, the Kings take on the Edmonton Oilers tonight at Staples Center. The Kings have lost two games in a row and are fighting for a playoff spot.
