Santa Clarita Sports Report – April 3, 2018

Santa Clarita High School Baseball

Lots of tournament baseball this week during spring break, before league play resumes next week.

Santa Ana Elks Tournament

Golden Valley: 2

Ramona 1:

Grizzlies move to 6-7 overall (6-2 in non-league games). They continue tournament play today against Rancho Cotate at 12:30.

Boras Classic

8 West Ranch (11-2) vs Mater Dei at 6:00

Ryan Lemmon Invitational

Valencia (Placentia) vs Valencia (7-7) at 5:45

Righetti Spring Classic

Saugus (5-5-1) vs Cabrillo at 4:30

Non-League

Santa Margarita vs Hart (7-8)* at 11:00

*Game played at The Master’s University

College of the Canyons

Baseball: Canyons opens a three game conference series against Antelope Valley on the road today. AV is just 2-6 in Western State Conference while COC is 6-2. First pitch at 2:30.

Softball: The Cougars were tripped up by Santiago Canyon in a double-header last Friday, but they’ve been dominant in conference play. They put their 9-0 WSC record on the line against an LA Valley team that is 16-9 and has won two in a row. First pitch is at 3:30.

Los Angeles Dodgers

Not a great start to the season for Kenley Jansen.

Coughed up a game-deciding home run against the Giants in the first series. Blew a save opportunity last night with a 6-3 lead in the ninth inning. Jansen gave up a three-run homer to Chris Owings, and the Diamondbacks walked off in the 15th inning for an 8-7 win.

Jansen’s ERA through his first two appearances is 18. Not ideal.

The good news? Clayton Kershaw is on the mound tonight, which should alleviate some of the sting from Monday’s loss. First pitch is again at 6:40, so tune in to KHTS FM 98.1 for the call.
