Valencia Defeats Hart 2-1 To Clinch 18th Straight Baseball Playoff Appearance – Santa Clarita Sports Report – May 9, 2018

Santa Clarita High School Baseball

Tuesday Scoreboard:

9 Hart: 1

Valencia: 2

It doesn’t seem to matter how many all-League players Valencia Baseball loses to graduation each year. Much like the football program, it continues to retool and stay among the best Santa Clarita has to offer.

Lukas White pitched a masterful complete game (2 hits allowed on just 71 pitches) and the Vikings clinched a CIF playoff berth for an incredible 18th consecutive season.

Hart has been the best team in the Foothill League all season, but the Indians can fall into a share of the league title with a season-ending loss to Valencia on Thursday and a West Ranch win over Golden Valley.

West Ranch: 12

Golden Valley: 4

Sophomore Nicholas Perez went 3-for-4 with four RBIs as the Wildcats thrust themselves back into contention for a share of the Foothill League title.

Saugus: 8

Canyon: 9

Shane Halstead hit the walk-off single in the eighth inning to give the Cowboys a 9-8 win over Saugus.

The Cowboys were 2-27 in 2017, and with a win Thursday at Saugus, they have a chance to end the season above .500 at 14-13. Incredible turnaround.

Lancaster Baptist: 0

6 Trinity: 7

The Knights won their eighth in a row and close the regular season Thursday against Lancaster.

Santa Clarita High School Softball

Tuesday Scoreboard:

Golden Valley: 0

9 Valencia: 1

The Vikings outlasted Golden Valley in a pitchers duel to move to 8-0 in league play, and Shea O’Leary was as dominant as ever.

The senior pitched another complete game shutout with just two hits against the second best team in the Foothill League.

Valencia (12-game overall winning streak) needs two more wins to make it back-to-back undefeated Foothill campaigns.

West Ranch: 8

Canyon: 1

The Wildcats snapped a two-game skid to get to 16-8 overall on the season,

Saugus: 12

Hart: 2

Saugus wrapped up the third playoff spot with a commanding win at Hart.
