The top three teams in the Foothill League showed this season just how strong the quality of soccer is played in the Santa Clarita Valley. And it was on display in the KHTS Match of the Day between No. 3 Valencia (9-0-1) and Hart (6-2-2).

The Indians got out to a 1-0 halftime lead with senior center attacking midfielder Michael Valencia pulling the strings in midfield. However, the Vikings rallied in a back-and-forth second half like they have done for the past two seasons and fought the Indians to a 2-2 draw, rescuing an undefeated Foothill League campaign.

Hart reached the 60-goal plateau, but fell to third place in the Foothill League, likely sending the Indians on the road in the playoffs.

Head Coach Tony Scalercio’s Valencia Vikings team should be considered the favorite to repeat as Division Champions and should earn one the top two seeds in the tournament. They have another special team.

No. 10 Saugus (7-2-1) capped a strong season by shutting out Canyon (0-9-1) 4-0 in front of the home crowd. The Centurions are primed for a deep run in the Division VI playoffs.

West Ranch (4-6) scored two goals on either side of the half to hand Golden Valley (1-8-1) its eighth loss. The Wildcats fed on the bottom two teams in the league this season, all four of their wins against Canyon and GV.

No. 9 Hart and the senior class capped off their unblemished four-time Foothill League champions’ record with a 2-1 win at Valencia ensuring at 7-0-3 the Indians are undefeated in league play once again. They will be a dangerous team in the Division I playoffs.

The Vikings finish 3rd in the Foothill League with a 5-4-1 record.

West Ranch (5-1-4) clinched second place by knocking off Golden Valley (0-10) with two second half goals in a 3-1 win. The Grizzlies finish in last place.

Saugus (3-3-4) ended the season on an exciting note thanks to Kelly Yanover’s game-tying goal with under two minutes to play against Canyon (3-5-2). The teams finished level at 2-2, but the tie kept the Centurions ahead of the Cowboys in the league standings.

Heritage League

No. 6 Santa Clarita Christian (16-4, 9-1) completed its regular season on Thursday by defeating Faith Baptist, 54-52, to become Co-Champions of the Heritage League along with Valley Torah.

Friday’s Foothill League schedule (tip-off at 6:30):

Hart (7-2) vs Valencia (6-3)*

*KHTS Game of the Night has the Vikings opportunity to wrestle a share of the Foothill League title away from Hart on their home court.

Golden Valley (4-5) vs West Ranch (5-4)

Teams fighting for playoff berths in need of one final league win to boost the resume.

Canyon (0-9) vs 12 Saugus (5-4)

Canyon’s last shot at a big upset to get a league win and the Centurions’ continued fighting for playoff position.

Friday’s Foothill League schedule (tip-off at 5:00)

Hart (6-3) vs Valencia (9-1)

The final Foothill League game of Vikings great Kayla Konrad’s career.

Golden Valley (0-9) vs West Ranch (1-9)

A big win tonight for the Grizzlies would force the Wildcats to join them at the bottom with equal 1-9 league records. Misery loves company. Will the Wildcats take care of business?

Canyon (8-1) vs Saugus (4-5)

One more win and the Cowboys can stake their claim as Foothill League champions. They’ll be hoping for an upset by Hart to give them sole possession of the crown.

TMU Basketball

Hope International completed its season sweep of the Mustangs men’s basketball team on Thursday, 82-72. The loss drops the No. 23 Mustangs to 8-4 in conference play with four GSAC games remaining.

Next up for the Mustangs is Arizona Christian, tomorrow at 4 pm.

It wasn’t a sweep for HI, as the Mustangs women’s team earned a 61-49 victory to move to 7-5 in the GSAC and a fifth win in a row.

The Mustangs tip off with Arizona Christian at 2 pm.

Los Angeles Lakers

The Lakers’ road trip presses on to Milwaukee where a day ago the Bucks found out Jabari Parker (20.1 points per game) will miss the rest of the season due to a torn left ACL, dealing a serious blow to a young and improving team.

The Lakers are 1-3 on the current road trip and have only six wins on the road all season. This should be a highly competitive game (cliche for the day).

Tip-off is at 5:00 pm.
