Maria Acevedo Lucatero, 57, was found by her husband last October, after being stabbed to death in their home in Plum Canyon. Detectives said Maria Lucatero was stabbed once in her upper torso.

Their youngest son, Jesse Lucatero, 25, was arrested as the lone suspect in the murder.

The younger Lucatero  reportedly had a confrontation with his mother while at home before her alleged murder, according to prosecutors.

Officials have remained tight-lipped on the motive, but officials have indicated in comment not for attribution that mental health concerns likely played a factor in the brutal killing.

Jesse Lucatero’s case started in Department 95, which is where trials are moved when a doubt is declared regarding the mental competency of a defendant, with respect to his ability to assist in his own defense.

The defendant was ruled competent to assist in his own defense in June of this year, according to officials with the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.

Maria was a chef and co-owner of Margarita’s Mexican Grill located in Valencia, which she had run with her husband for years. The two also ran a restaurant in Thousand Oaks.

Jesse Lucatero is currently being held at Twin Towers Correctional Facility is being held in lieu of more than $2 million bail.
