The Rancho Camulos Museum is set to offer several upcoming special events in the 2020 winter season, including the inaugural “Newhallywood Silent Film Festival.”
Helen Hunt Jackson Reenactment
On Saturday, Jan. 25, guests can experience a reenactment of American poet and activist Helen Hunt Jackson’s 1882 visit to Rancho Camulos, which inspired her to use its living memory of the Californio lifestyle as one of the settings for her novel “Ramona.”
Jackson was an American poet and writer who became an activist on behalf of Native Americans due to their appalling treatment at the hands of the United States government.
Reenactors will engage and delight you as they portray this event which forever changed the peaceful life at Rancho Camulos.
By popular demand, this year’s annual re-enactment has been expanded to two performances and a meet and greet with Helen Hunt Jackson and the Del Valle family would follow each one at 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m.
The suggested donation for the reenactment is $10
