Pedestrian Killed In I-5 Hit-And-Run Crash Near Newhall

A pedestrian was killed early Monday morning in a hit-and-run collision on the I-5 near Newhall.

At approximately 2:16 a.m. Monday, California Highway Patrol (CHP) and Los Angeles County Fire Department personnel responded to reports of a body in traffic lanes on northbound I-5, just north of Weldon Canyon Road, said Officer Andre Ortiz, spokesperson for the CHP Newhall Area Office.

“For unknown reasons, a male was walking in the #4 lane of northbound I-5, north of Weldon Canyon Road, when he was struck by an unknown vehicle,” Ortiz said.

The driver of the vehicle fled the scene after the crash, according to Ortiz.

Currently, alcohol and/or drugs do not appear to be a factor, and no other vehicles are believed to have been involved.

The cause of this crash remains under investigation.

The name of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
