Beware of Dog

A family pet in a back yard bordering a bank that was the scene of a heist may have foiled the thieves’ plan to keep all of the money they stole…

Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputies found the contents of at least one exploded die pack in a Canyon Country family’s yard Tuesday afternoon after two men jumped the concrete wall separating the home’s yard from the Union Bank of California.
Deputies said the Canyon Country branch, located in the 18700 block of Soledad Canyon Road near the Edwards movie theater, was robbed around 12:15 p.m. by two men described as being black and in their 20s with hooded sweatshirts and dark pants.
Deputies launched an hours-long search in the surrounding neighborhood and mobile home park, but the suspects remained at large as of press time.
Deputies said that when the suspects entered the bank, they ordered the employees and customers to the ground, then jumped over the counter and demanded money. Although no weapons were seen, a teller reportedly suffered minor injuries at the hands of one of the suspects during the robbery.
Detective Eric Lasko said the robbers left a money trail as they fled on foot and jumped an 8-foot wall behind the bank. Lasko said approximately $8,000 was recovered between the bank and the yard, but it is not known how much the robbers actually got away with.
Samantha, a 1-year-old boxer mix, was the only one home at the time. It is not known if the dog attacked the suspects as they landed in the back yard, but her owner, John Castro, thinks the puppy scared them.
